讲座摘要:Previous research on firm’s strategic adaptation in response to changes in the external environmental was focused on firm strategies and capabilities in adjusting internal structures and processes necessary to be in compliance with the change in regulated environment. However, how firm’s survival and growth may be contingent on ability to exploit opportunities that are created in the regulatory environment has been relatively understudied. By building on the Behavioral Theory of the Firm concept on “negotiating the environment” (Cyert and March 1963) and the subsequent development of Resource Dependence Theory (Pfeffer and Salancik, 1978), our findings extend the RDT lens to the question of how low power firms (e.g. resource poor firms) can identify and explore opportunities in their formal or informal institutional environment by deploying various strategic actions.
